Holcim Romania has opened a new EUR3m aggregates plant in Neudorf, Arad province, western Romania. The first deliveries of the new plant have been completed this month, said Holcim. Holcim (Romania) awarded state grant

Holcim is among five companies in Romania which have been awarded state grants for “investments with systemic impact”, according to IntelliNews. The grants are worth a total of RON363m (US$78.92m), of which Holcim has been allocated RON77.8m. The company has not yet revealed what the funds will be used for.  Holcim (Romania) SA currently runs three plants in Romania, one grinding and two integrated, with a total cement production capacity of 6Mta. 

Holcim Romania inaugurates new terminal

Holcim Romania has inaugurated a new cement terminal which involved an investment of RON12.5m (US$3.1m). The new terminal in the town of Roman, in the northeastern country of Neamt, will supply cement to local clients mostly, Holcim said in a press release. With an area of 13,120m 2 , the terminal is connected to the railway network and has loading and unloading automatic equipment.

Romania: sales and profits increase

For the year 2015 three major cement producers in Romania saw an increase in both sales and profits. Holcim Romania increased its sales by 15 per cent in 2015, achieving a turnover of EUR253m (US$287.5m). The company also reported a net profit of EUR29m, 81 per cent higher compared to 2014. Sofiane Benmaghnia has been appointed the new CEO of Holcim Romania, effective 1 April 2016. He replaces François Petry who took over as CEO of Aggregates Industries, the UK subsidiary of the recently-formed LafargeHolcim group.
